Is FNP the right place for me as a caregiver who is supporting a young person?

Yes. FNP supports anyone who is caring for or supporting a young person aged 11 to 29 with mental health and/or addictions concerns. Caregivers can be parents, guardians, siblings, partners, extended or chosen family, service providers, community members, or any trusted person in the young person’s life. We listen to your story, help you understand the mental health and addictions system, and work with you to find supports for the youth and for you as a caregiver.

Do I need my young person’s permission to contact FNP?

No. You do not need your young person’s permission to reach out to us.

Many caregivers and supporters contact us first. If the youth chooses to be involved later, we will talk together about what feels comfortable and safe. You can still receive guidance and support even if the youth is not ready to participate.

What if my young person does not want help or is not ready yet?

You can still connect with FNP. Readiness for mental health and addictions support can change over time. We will support you in your caregiving role, help you plan next steps, and share resources that may help while you wait. You do not have to figure this out on your own.

Is the service confidential for caregivers and youth?

Yes. What you share with us is kept confidential, within legal and safety guidelines. We explain what confidentiality means, what information can be shared, and how we protect your privacy. We want caregivers and youth to feel safe and respected when they connect with us.

Does it cost anything to use FNP?

No. FNP is a free service. There is no cost to caregivers, supporters, or youth to receive navigation support.

Can more than one caregiver or family member be involved?

Yes. We welcome the people who support the young person. This may include parents, siblings, partners, chosen family, extended family, service providers, or other trusted supporters. We work with you to decide who should be involved and how to make that feel comfortable for everyone.

I am already connected to services. Can FNP still support me?

Yes. Many families and supporters contact us while they are already receiving mental health or addictions support.
We can help you understand your options, fill in gaps, explore additional resources, and coordinate next steps. We work alongside your existing providers, not instead of them.
